Hay There! I'm Emily A. Hay
As Co-Founder & CEO of Hay There, I jump out of bed everyday to empower women to leverage their creativity and authentic voices and to help businesses win with social media marketing.
After studying marketing at The Max M. Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University, I began my corporate America journey working in sales at a Fortune 500 company selling office equipment. Cold calling, quotas, and adages like “you’re only as good as your last sale” were my business foundation. I’ve always been obsessed with results and repeatable processes.
As an entrepreneur, I paved my way into the social media marketing industry by starting my own company, Hay There Social Media, in 2009 and building a team of women who worked remotely long before it was the norm. We’ve successfully delivered proven social media strategies and management services for national hospitality companies, industry-leading senior living organizations, franchise businesses and more; all who focused on reaching female decision makers on social media.
After 10 years in business, we added a division to the company to empower women to start their own social media management businesses. Graduates of our proven training program were earning their investment back in an average of 3 months; many of them doubling and even tripling their investment from paid work in 6 months or less.
Social media marketing must always contribute to making sales but it starts with real, human connection that simply cannot be done through posts alone. Dealerships are uniquely positioned to change stagnant perceptions of their key buyer—women—through social media marketing and it takes an accountable partner with expertise inside and outside of the automotive industry to make it happen.

The co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer at Hay There, a company focused on empowering women through upskilling, community support, and access to paid work in the realm of automotive retail.
Since joining in 2021, I’ve leveraged my 15+ years in automotive retail to guide women in managing social media accounts across many industries in the U.S. and beyond. As one of the few women to become a Dealer Owner, my unique perspective and leadership in automotive marketing are distinctive. I have been recognized by prominent organizations in the automotive industry as a leader, including the distinguished honor of being named one of Automotive News’ 100 Leading Women in North America. I now bring that expertise to infuse dealer marketing with more of a woman’s voice, creating authentic connections with female consumers.
As a published author on the subject, I led initiatives that saved thousands of dealerships during the manufacturer bankruptcies of the late 2000s, and I deeply care about the success of dealers across the country.
After completing my undergraduate work at Elon University and earning my Masters at American University, I gained invaluable work experience in NYC promoting U.S. investment in foreign countries, affording me a macro lens on global markets and economic development.
This experience underscored the critical role that diverse perspectives play in shaping industries and economies. It aligns perfectly with my vision for Hay There, where I blend my extensive automotive retail experience with a deep passion for empowering women. This unique combination positions me to drive impactful and lasting change within the industry.
